Using the sun’s energy efficiently is not typically defined as an easy task. Sunlight is very widespread. To find the best way to capture it we need to look to technology for the key.

Photovoltaic cells, or in plain english, solar cells, are one of these technologies that are available. When the topic of solar power comes up, the first thing that comes to mind are solar panels full of them. They consist of semi-conductors which are typcially made from silicon which absorbs the light that the sun provides. When sunlight makes contact with the silicon, new free electrons are birthed. As the electrons are directed out of the silicon, an electric current is produced.
Concentrating solar power systems are another solar technology. This one involves using mirrors to direct sun rays to a specific area. The sunlight reflected is used to heat or power a power plant. Other systems channel the light from the mirrors to an area filled with PV cells just like solar panels.
Another solar power technology that is used in today’s time is a solar water heating system. One of the most simple out there. All that’s done is to direct the sunlight to heat up liquids such as water in a water heater. These are common among family homes.
In order to capture the sunlight, solar panels have to be installed in your home or wherever you may need the energy. You may need a bit of space for this depending on how much energy you need, but long-term, this is very beneficial as it cuts your electrical bill by boatloads!
These are only a few examples of the technologies that are available for the purpose of harnessing the power of the sun. And they continue to evolve every day.
