To every problem there is always a seed of solution. Solar energy is one of the promising energy rich areas where man has encouragingly made rapid technological strides to substitute this form of energy in lieu of energy generation derived from the earth’s mineral resources.

 

Solar energy is generated from the manufacture, distribution and locational positioning of tube mounted light sensitive photovoltaic cells. Photovoltaic cells are installed on terraces, parks or any open area where there are no obstructive elements that block the effective penetration of sunlight. In the case of street lamps, the photovoltaic cells structure is designed to be installed on the upper end of the electric pole in order to absorb and store the sunlight during the day time; the energy is then released in the form of electrical energy at night to power the bulbs or tubes of the street lamps. These photovoltaic cells absorb the light (solar) energy emitted from the sun and convert this energy into electrical energy which is used to power any electrically driven gadget with a power rating compatible with its energy requirements. In reality the photovoltaic cells are covered with a thing transparent material for protection but allow the infra red solar energy to penetrate this layer and thus energize the photovoltaic cells. Once energized the photovoltaic cells can the power the requisite electrical gadgets. Since photovoltaic cells are energized by solar energy, the strength and duration of the energized photovoltaic cells will depend on the strength and duration of solar energy. In northern Europe, Canada and Asiatic Russia where the winter nights are long, the days alarmingly short and the strength of sunlight low, solar cells will have a much shorter power supply span than as compared to longer summer days and shorter summer nights.

 

On the average solar lights can light for eight to ten hours per day. Solar lights can be used for various purposes such as street lighting, garden lighting, and home lighting among many other uses.
