pv nrt units
Given the following conditions for an ideal gas, what is the number of moles of gas?
P = 650 torr
V = 983 mL
T = 42.5 Celcius
I know the equation is PV=nRT but i don’t know which units to use and which R to use. .082057 L atm mol^-1 k^-1 OR 8.31447 J mol^-1 k^-1? How do you know?
there should be consistency in your units… you should convert your temp to kelvin, that way, it’ll cancel out the temp in your gas constant… also, convert you pressure to atmosphere, and your volume to liters.
after you’ve done all the conversions, use the 0.082057 as your R.. you’ll find that all other units except moles will be canceled out once you’ve substituted all the converted values to the formula.. that’ll be the answer… it’s just simple dimensional analysis.
