Making your own iPhone ringtone is as simple as a walk in the park. This only works on DRM music files, so songs purchased from iTunes is not compatible to be used as ringtones. This is a common misconception among iPhone users. However, any mp3 which is DRM free will work. So, if you ripped the song from a CD it will most probably work.

Here are steps on how to make your own iPhone ringtones:

1. Open iTunes and choose the song you want as your new ringtone.

2. Play the song and part of the song that you want to use as a ringtone. Remember that for an iPhone, ringtones can only be 40 seconds long.

3. Take note of the time where you want the tone to start and end remembering the 40 second limit.

4. “Right click” on the song then select “Get Info”.

5. Select “Options” tab.

6. Under the “Options” tab you should see a place to enter the start and stop times.

7. Click the check box for “Start” and put in the time for the ringtone to start.

8. Now click the check for “Stop” and put in the time for the ringtone to stop. iTunes will automatically cut it off the tone after 40 seconds if you do not manually set it up. Press OK to close the dialog box.

9. Right click the chosen song and then select “Create ACC Version”.

10. After iTunes has converted the file, right click it and select “Delete” Screenshot 6. iTunes will ask if you want to keep the file, select “Keep”.

11. The file will then be deleted from iTunes, but will remain on your hard drive. Browse your music folder, you should find a file created with an extension of .m4a. This is what you need for your ringtone.

12. Right click and choose “Rename”. Change the file extension to .m4r.

13. Double click on the file and it will open in iTunes.

14. The file is now ready for use as a ringtone. Connect your iPhone and sync ringtones and you are all set.
