If you are planning on building solar panels for home power you’re going to need the right materials… You should start off with a smaller scale solar panel so that you can see how everything works before you jump into a larger project.
The first thing you’re going to need is a batch of solar cells… These are costly so your best bet is to buy them used online. They may be a little damaged but worry not because they’ll still work just fine.
Go through each of your solar cells and make sure there aren’t any broken lines on the black side of the cell… You need to make sure all of those lines are connected so if any are disconnected because of damage you’ll need a conductive pen to connect the lines again.
Keep your solar cells in a safe place if you’re not going to be using them right away; they’re about as fragile as thin glass so keep them out of reach of children and out of the way so that no one accidentally bumps into them.
Then next step in building solar panels for home power is to make the actual panel itself. This can be done with a simple piece of plywood…
Don’t cheap out on the panels, its the base of your solar panel setup and holds everything together, get a strong piece of wood for the panel; you can even put some protective coating on it to protect from the elements.
Once you have your panel ready you’re going to need some plexiglass to put over top of the panel to protect the solar cells from the weather. In the end your panel is basically going to look like a large picture frame.
The last few steps we’re going to talk about on building solar panels for home power is all about getting the energy…
You’re first going to need some copper wiring so that you can connect all of the solar cells together. Then you’re going to need a storage battery to store the energy so that you can use it when you’re ready.
When you have this done you’ll have a pretty complete solar panel and you’ll be ready to move onto bigger projects to generate more energy for your home.
