3T Regulator Heatsink Question?
i need a heatsink for a 7805.
i know the casing is TO-220, but there are so many different types and sizes!
i looked on mouser.com, but have no clue what dimensions to get. could someone provide a link to which one I would need?
also, will I damage the 5v 1a regulator putting 2.5 amps into it? the regulator is for a small solar panel project I’m doing, thats where the 2.5A is coming from.

From the spec sheet, you would definitely damage it if you put 2.5 amps through to the output. If you only need the 1.0 amp load, and can take only that amount of current (max) from the source, e.g. by parallel paths, then it should work.
