For Solar, what kind of Degree is required?

I am very interested in the idea and application of solar energy. More specifically, the increasing of the efficiency of the panels. This is something I wouldn’t like to look into as a career, but I can’t find which kind of degree will cover the knowledge I need to improve photovoltaic efficiency. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.

you may want to look into electrical engineering because efficiency may lie in how they are built, or chemical/materials engineering because a new chemical or material may capture the light better, giving more electricity.
